THE 3 C'S OF ROAD SAFETY

I can see you're already wondering what these 3 C's are/what they could be. Stop wondering guys, they're common words you come across every day. However, they're simple but powerful words that are important to our everyday safety and survival on the road. And they're, Care, Concentration and Caution.

Let's break them down as they relate to Road Safety in order of priority.

CARE:
Again, you're wondering what CARE as to do with Road Safety and how it relates to it. Let me explain. You have to take care of two important things before you get on the road. 1, your vehicle. 2, your habit.

1. Care for your vehicle: A properly maintained vehicle is a prerequisite for good and safe driving. Nothing makes you a good driver without proper care for your vehicle. Maintenance of your vehicle is a condition that necessitates an action of good, safe and smooth driving experience. For instance, to become a driver, you have to learn how to drive. So, learning  how to drive is the condition that necessitates the action of driving. Unfortunately, it won't be said to have a safe driving experience without your vehicle being in good condition - even if you're the most cautious and most concentrated driver on the road.

2. Care for your habit: Your habit can be a powerful ally or a deadly enemy depending on whether it moves you towards or away from being safe on the road. Habits are very useful in Road Safety because they save you the hassle of having to remember before you do things, things that you can easily forget, such as, seat belt usage, using your blinkers timely and correctly etc. Habit helps you to flow into the rhythm of doing things that you will ordinarily forget without thinking before you do them. Like flowing into the routine of safe driving once you get into your car and hit the road.

CONCENTRATION
Distracted driving has become a global phenomenon. People are dying daily as a result of distraction behind the wheels. Texting while driving is the number one form of distraction - contributing more than 70% in distracted driving accidents. Though, there are other forms of distracted driving, such as, eating, grooming, reaching for an object, etc.

The only solution to distracted driving is Concentration! Concentration! Concentration! Because road hazards happen more frequently than you think and the road is a place with a lot of uncertainties, ranging from driver's mistakes to road lawlessness.
Concentration gives you time to react promptly to avoid or minimize any hazard the road present to you while driving. So, let's change all kinds of distracted driving to "concentrated driving". Whatever distracts you behind the wheel is not more important than your life.

CAUTION
The significance of the word 'caution' in Road Safety can not be quantified/overemphasized. Caution is used to check driver's excesses on the road. It's the instrument used in most traffic laws, examples are, speed limit - to check excessive speeding, 2 second rule (tailgating) - to prevent rear-end impact, it has even been used for road signs etc.
Caution is the heart of safe driving and it's a word that cannot be taken for granted when driving because its importance to your safety on the road is second to non.

Care, Concentration and Caution make accident rear.
