KENYANS ARE OUTRAGE AT THEIR PRESIDENT FOR DRIVING WITHOUT USING A SELT BELT.

 

Kenyans have expressed anger at President Uhuru Kenyatta after watching a video footage posted online that showed him driving a vehicle without wearing a seat belt. In the footage, President Kenyatta is seen entering a car and driving to his rural home in Gatundu, Kiambu County, without wearing a seat belt.
 

The video, which is a promo of an interview with Citizen TV anchor-cum-reporter, Jacque Maribe, has been shared widely on social media.
 
Kenyans were shocked by the President’s poor judgment to drive a vehicle without considering traffic regulations, despite his government’s ongoing road safety campaign by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).
 
The NTSA had during the festive season erected roadblocks on various major roads, including Thika Superhighway that leads to the President’s rural home, to nab drivers breaking traffic rules.

Driving, commuting and being a pedestrian on the road can certainly be challenging, sometimes fun and most times frustrating. It's fun when you can cruise above the speed limit without any hindrance on the road, and can be frustrating when the traffic is snarled and chaotic, a situation where getting to your destination is like battling with other road users.

The hard lesson learnt from the 2015 W.H.O report on Road Traffic Crashes is that as human beings, we have turned our lawlessness, our I-don't-care attitudes towards Road Safety and our bad driving behaviors into an epidemic.

We continue to treat Road Traffic Crashes as something that has know effect whatsoever on us.

Let's imagine what would have happened if this has been a plague like 'EBOLA', we would have seen more serious minded hands on deck to stem its tide. But, because some people are greedy e.g. Government officials, especially in low and middle income countries like Africa where they care less about a life, let alone many that are lost daily on our roads. Africa has the highest death rates, but lowest vehicle numbers.

INCESSANT ROAD TRAFFIC CRASHES IN NIGERIA, A CASE OF TWO WRONGS.

Road traffic crashes  have been  on the increase in Nigeria, claiming lives and properties every day on our roads, especially the ones involving articulated vehicles, leaving everyone to gasp for breath and wonder why this is happening along our roads.

 

Everyone is now afraid when it comes to driving too close to any fuel tanker/container laden trucks because of the manners they drive with their improper latched luggage, creating fear in the minds of road users. Looking critically at the causes of this carnage that is bedeviling our roads, one can easily deduce that, this is mostly as a consequence of human error.

• Always yield the right of way.
• Safe speeds for road conditions....

THE 3 C'S OF ROAD SAFETY

I can see you're already wondering what these 3 C's are/what they could be. Stop wondering guys, they're common words you come across every day. However, they're simple but powerful words that are important to our everyday safety and survival on the road. And they're, Care, Concentration and Caution.

Let's break them down as they relate to Road Safety in order of priority.

CARE:
Again, you're wondering what CARE as to do with Road Safety and how it relates to it. Let me explain. You have to take care of two important things before you get on the road. 1, your vehicle. 2, your habit.

TAILGATING ISN'T WORTH IT

TAILGATING.
Tailgating is the practice of driving on a road too close to a frontward vehicle, at a distance which does not guarantee stopping to avoid collision.

Tailgating isn't worth it. Why putting yourself at risk of unavoidable road traffic accident when you can simply keep the necessary distance to the vehicle in front of you so as to stop or maneuver in case the frontward vehicle stop abruptly.

WHY ROAD SAFETY IS EVERYONE'S RESPONSIBILITY

A friend once asked me why Road Safety is Everyone's Responsibility? The following conversation is what ensued between us.

My Friend: Why is Road Safety Everyone's Responsibility? Me: Because we're all a stakeholder in the business of Road Safety. My Friend: Laughs... And ask what business, I am not in the transportation business. So what business are you talking about?
